A Study in Regret: A Sherlock Holmes Pastiche by aleineskyfire A Study in Regret: A Sherlock Holmes Pastiche by aleineskyfire
This is gift-art for a very dear friend and fellow Sherlockian, Riandra [link] Her fanfic, A Study in Regret, is on its way to becoming a full-length novel, and it is absolutely fantastic! Seriously, I can't tell you just how good it is, so go read it: [link]

Dedicated to Aleine Skyfire. What if events had turned out for the worst after Moriarty's death at Reichenbach? Character death, drug and torture references.

ASIR also has its own TV Tropes page: [link]

Allow me to fangirl a bit now, please. When Ria first messaged me, she told me that she was a big fan of my novel-in-progress [link] and then asked me if I'd let her post up a one-shot of hers that was inspired by my novel. Well, wow! I said yes, I read it, and... seriously? I was blown away.

The emotions, the pain, were painted so vividly. Sherlock Holmes jumped out from the screen as a fully-realized character, and it was fantastic. Each new chapter was a treat, despite Holmes's physical and internal agony. Then Lestrade arrived on the scene, and Mary with him. I could have burst with giddiness. Both were treated so respectfully and, yes, so vividly.

I could really go on forever on how excellent this story is (and pretty much am doing so on its TV Tropes pages), but the best thing I can say for it is this: Go treat yourself to it. You have no idea what you're missing if you don't. This is one of those rare gems of fanfiction that equals and transcends the canon.

And, with any luck, we'll see it someday amongst MX Publishing's online bookshelves. :)

(Artist's Comments: I seem to like this sketchy style lately. ;) This was indeed drawn on deviantART muro, but I copied the pic to my hard drive so that I could add the title. The red in the background is obvious - chocolate-chip cookies to whoever guesses correctly what the blue in the background represents.)

Lovely! The swirls convey a sense of 'alive' or 'movement'

Thank you very much! Actually, I used to go overboard with my swirls - I just liked that effect so much. But this is one case in which I still like the job I did.

Super cool effect - but as you say, there's a time and place for everything. The art is in knowing where swirls should be and where they should not be.

Nice! I'm loving Riandra's story, and I'll be sure to leave her a review soon (I'll also be reading reviewing your latest chapter soon). :)

Thank you for the comment and the fave! :D (Pretty much nobody comments on my stuff anymore... :'( ) I did see that you faved and are reviewing ASIR, and that is so awesome. I'm so glad - she really deserves so much more support than she's gotten to date. (And yay for another review on Mortality! :D )

Yes, I know. It's sad when I see some great authors not getting the recognition they deserves (like you - you need way more reviews on Mortality).

Both reviews have been submitted! My review for ASIR is woefully short, though. Next time you're talking to Riandra, tell her that I LOVE her story, and am very impressed not only with its quality but also with the pace she's churning out chapters. That lady sure can write! :)

Yes. Yes, it is. (Awww. )

Thanks for the review! Aw, I'll definitely tell her that - absolutely. Yes, she CAN write, can't she? She honestly blows me away. :)

You're very welcome.

I love her writing - it's definitely good enough to be published.

I know, isn't it? And that's just something you don't see very often in any fandom. I've even been privy to some of her drafts lately, and let me tell you, the grammatical quality is staggeringly good for drafts!

...can you tell I'm a huge fangirl? (The irony: the whole thing got started in the first place because she's a huge fangirl of my work! :giggle:)

Yay for fangirling!

I'm glad you two have inspired each other so much. It's lovely to read the results. You both have excellent SH stories.

(by the way, I'd love to chat to you sometime on the BLoSC forum, if you're ever interested in stopping by the chatbox.)
